A City of Glass
19 1/2" x 17 1/2" oil on linen
With poetic narrative $1850
This is a painting with a poetic narrative. It is a metaphor on life and hopefully has some value to its viewers and readers. I cannot, at this time produce the entire ballad here, but what follows is a few verses of this dream sequence.
A CITY OF GLASS
For a day of fun, In the warm Summer sun, My wife, little kiddies and I, Set out afloat in our tiny boat, Under a clear turquoise sky, In a rough little craft, Of quite shallow draft, but well caulked to keep her tight, With pine pole and sail, Made of percaile, And outriggers to keep her upright. So off did we cast, With our cares of the past, In the cool morning left back on shore. (Ah! there's a place in the heart, In each creature a part, Longs with family to live evermore). So we glided along, With laughter and song, Over the silvery lagoon....
The painting with poetic narrative (ballad) is now on display at the Springville Museum of Art in Springville Utah.
Composition note:
The composition of this painting is discussed in detail in my text: "The Artist's Toolbox" in detail. In short, note how the colors in the forground are exstensons of the background colors such as the yellow straw hat and the bright yellow flag set the perspective of the background yellows. The same is true of the orange sail and the green boat etc. The same can be found in much of my landscape and wildlife paintings.
