The viewer is led to cross the foreground waters to explore many points of beauty and the mystery of the background around the reflected pine and into the distant aspen, barely distinguishable. One can spend some time in this painting.
Compositional Notes: Very careful attention to perspective, both linear and ariel, the establishment of a strong horizon, and the use of dynamic symmetry in the layout of major elements, provide the viewer with a feeling of presence in the scene and a feeling that everything is in order. Spring greens promise life and strong green have a sedative affect. Then as the horizontals give a feeling of peace, the verticls are exhilarating.
